Licence and credit

You can use these maps in articles, videos, lessons, books and posts, including commercial ones. Credit Indus Atlas every time.

The licence

The maps, their images and the data compiled for them are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0). Under it you may copy, share, crop, translate and adapt the maps, as long as you:

How to credit

Put this next to the map, in the caption or the description:

Map: Indus Atlas (indusatlas.vercel.app), CC BY-SA 4.0

If you changed it, add “adapted” after the map title. Downloaded PNGs carry the address and licence in a strip under the map; please leave the strip in, or give the credit line instead if you crop it out.

Why share-alike

Some base maps used here are themselves under share-alike licences, including the Wikimedia Commons blank district map of Pakistan (CC BY-SA 4.0). Adaptations of those have to stay share-alike, so the whole atlas uses the same licence for consistency.

Source data

The licence covers the maps and the way the data was compiled. It does not change the terms of the sources underneath, which keep their own: UCDP event data and GeoNames under CC BY 4.0, geoBoundaries under its per-country terms, Natural Earth in the public domain, Wikipedia under CC BY-SA, and the census volumes, South Asia Terrorism Portal and news reports under their publishers’ terms. Each map’s page lists its sources.

Borders

The partition and Kashmir maps draw hypothetical borders from census majorities. They are for discussion and are not endorsements of any claim. Boundaries on all maps are drawn for display and are not authoritative.
